Kids In Distress, Inc. (KID) is a nationally accredited organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, preserving families, and treating children who have been abused and neglected. Since 1979, when KID was created as a shelter for abused and neglected children, it now possesses a five-acre multiple program campus in Fort Lauderdale, FL and a 4-acre campus featuring two family foster group homes in Southwest Ranches, FL. Our services include individual, family, and group therapy and counseling; preschool, aftercare and summer camp programs; recruitment, training, and support of foster/adoptive homes; and prevention, reunification, family preservation and maternal and child health services.
Foster Care
Providing children who have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment with a stable and nurturing environment where they can develop to their fullest emotional, educational, and social potential.
Education
Preschool, Aftercare and Summer Camp programs that provide a safe, positive environment that enhances academic achievement, supports social, physical, and character development, and strengthens youth relationships with adults and peers., length of service, and why it’s unique.
Physical Health
The Dental Clinic at KID is a collaborative partnership with Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine to bring quality, affordable dental care – both routine and urgent – to thousands of children who could not otherwise afford it.
Food Distribution
Sponsored by No Kid Hungry and in partnership with Feeding South Florida, FLIPANY, and others, KID leads a weekly food distribution to ensure children and families in our care and throughout our community do not go hungry.
Family Strengthening
Family strengthening includes individual and family counseling, group counseling, infant mental health services, adoption support and therapeutic visitation to children and families in need of support.
KID Summer Camps
This 8 week program is for children 5 – 12. The 5 day Program includes academics, physical education, social skills workshops, weekly field trips, swimming lessons, and more. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided each day.
